Iran, Cuba keen to expand bilateral ties
Tehran Nov 12, IRNA
Iran-Mottaki-NAM
Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and his Cuban counterpart
Felipe Perez Roque in a meeting here Saturday exchanged views on the
latest developments in bilateral ties and ways of broadening such
relations as well as international issues.
During the session, held on the sidelines of the meeting between members
of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and EU3 about Iran's nuclear dossier,
Mottaki referred to the positive outcome of NAM-Troika meeting in Tehran
and said that a good opportunity was provided on the sidelines of the
event for further assessment of the capacities for new cooperation
between Iran and Cuba.
According to a report released by the Foreign Ministry Media Department,
he expounded on mutual interest in bilateral relations in all fields.
"Iran and Cuba have always been enjoying the growing trend in their
bilateral and international collaboration as well as those underway
within the framework of South-South and NAM.
"This is owing to the wise leadership of both countries in countering
the threats imposed by foreign powers," he added.
Briefing his Cuban counterpart on the joint approach of both countries
in the international assemblies, the minister noted that the common
objective of the two countries -- their resistance against the greed of
the world powers -- has always attracted the attention of the world
public opinion and defenders of the rights of the oppressed.
Mottaki underlined that under the new conditions, it is necessary to
proceed with firm determination and take steps to identify new
capacities.
"The US administration is following its expansionist goals in
Afghanistan and Iraq, but the resistance of people and the political
process in both countries against the foreigners' greed are a call for
people's sovereignty and withdrawal of the occupation forces," concluded
Mottaki.
For his part, Perez Roque said that his visit to Tehran aims to protect
Iran's right for access to peaceful nuclear technology within the
framework of NAM-Troika foreign ministers meeting.
He added that in response to the discriminatory approach of the foreign
powers towards Iran's right to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, his
country has supported and would support the program.
"The statement issued jointly by the foreign ministers of NAM and EU3
can have a positive impact on the negotiations between Iran and the UN
nuclear watchdog," he added.
Expounding on the outlook of Cuba's leader on expansion of bilateral
ties, he said that the visit of the Iranian deputy foreign minister for
European and American affairs to Cuba can give a new momentum to the
mutual relations.
"This can raise the level of collaboration in the domains of
biotechnology, medicine and technical branches.
Perez hoped that exchange of experience and training both in the
government and private sectors can lead to taking further day-to-day
steps towards closer relations.
The Cuban minister said that his country is ready to develop the
multifaceted bonds to a satisfactory level and pointed to the decisive
role of continuous communication between the high-ranking officials of
the two states to this very end.
