La Habana Review: Montes de Oca has always maintained his opposition to Castro’s tyranny. He has been confined several times since 1984 for demonstrating peacefully against the abuses the government perpetrates against its own citizens. Montes de Oca only employs peaceful means in his opposition, such as, public demonstrations and civil disobedience. Even from within the prison walls Montes de Oca continues his protests and is subjected to unspeakable punishment by the prison staff. Other members of the Pro Human Rights Party fear the government my set him up and charge him with a criminal act now that his present sentence is coming to an end.
