Review: Between arrests, Rodríguez Lobaina has been the subject of
countless acts of repression by the government for his constant and
active peaceful position against the Cuban regime.
After beginning his protests in Oriente, Rodríguez Lobaina relocates to
the Cuban capital city of Havana and continues to denounce the
government. The authorities sentenced him to exile in his home province.
Rodríguez Lobaina has been the subject of:
· Exiled to his home province of Oriente
· confiscation of his published works
· accused of promoting the enemy’s propaganda
· characterized as a danger to society
· accused of disrespect and resistance against the government
· several government staged kidnaps, in which he has been taken without
cause and left abandoned far from his home without any resources to
return to it
· placed in front of a firing squad and threatened to renounce and cease
his civil disobedience activities against the authorities
In March 2002 Rodríguez Lobaina was arrested and charged with contempt
and “disrespecting the figure of the commander-in-chief”.
He was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
During his imprisonment, Rodríguez Lobaina has been hit by prison guards
and common prisoners who act with institutional consent.
Néstor Rodríguez Lobaina has gone on hunger strikes several times with
the hope the Cuban government would recognize his human and civil
rights.
