Mijail Bárzaga Lugo |
|
Charge: Arrested in the repressive wave of March 2003 (Group of
75)
Sentence: 15 years in prison
Prison: Prisión Provincial de Santa Clara
Organization: Independent journalist, Agencia noticiosa de Cuba
Family: Belkis Bárzaga Lugo (sister)
Address: Calle 17 #213 e/ 6 y 8 Ampliación Reparto San Matías. San
Miguel del Padrón. Habana.
Review: Bárzaga Lugo was confined to a particular prison cell
designed to punish prisoners. This prison cell is commonly referred to
as ‘the hole’ . Bárzaga Lugo became disoriented to the point of losing
any sense of time- whether it was day or night.
Bárzaga Lugo is a victim of ‘Law 88’ or the muzzle law which prohibits
any dissent by cuban citizens. Bárzaga Lugo stands firm in his beliefs
of freedom of speech and freedom of the press.
Cuba ranks among the top three countries with the most journalists in
prison. Fidel Castro and his regime folllow the first two rules of
oppression to the letter; 1) Quash freedom of expression 2) punish those
who dare exercise their right to express themselves
