Review: Ruiz Matoses was a lieutenant colonel in the elite coast
guard corps of the Cuban Department of Interior. Ruiz Matoses must have
realized his duties as a lieutenant colonel were not representing the
interests of the Cuban people, but rather the interests of Fidel Castro
and his regime. Ruiz Matoses , as well as many others, made the
difficult decision of breaking his ties to the Cuban government and
pursue his freedom of conscience. For the past 13 years, Ruiz Matoses
has been enduring the inhumane conditions in which the Castro government
maintains the Cuban prisons.
