Rodríguez Capote was one of the many who wanted to commemorate such a tragic date by protesting. The Cuban authorities frustrated the protesters efforts by arresting the leaders. Prior to the their attempt to demonstrate peacefully, the Cuban government threatened Rodríguez Capote and other human rights activists. Rodríguez Capote is in prison indefinitely without a trial. Rodríguez Capote has held several hunger strikes in an attempt to attract attention to the plight of Cuban political prisoners.
