Review: García Farah is one of the many young Cubans whose
aspirations and freedom have been practically imposible to attain due to
the communist government. García Farah was arrested for trying to leave
his country and was tried by the Popular Tribunal in Havana.
When Pope John Paul II visited Cuba in 1998, he presented the Cuban
government with a list of political prisoners and asked for clemency on
their behalf. García Farah was included in the list and denounced the
manner in which the cuban authorities had handled the Pope’s petition
and was placed in solitary confinement.
In his letters, García Farah has told of the numerous abuses carried out
by the prison authorities on his person and other political prisoners.
