Review: Gonzalez Leyva has condemned the prison system in Cuba as
inhumane. Due to his sightless condition Gonzalez Leyva is not permitted
to go outside under the Sun to breathe fresh air. His cell’s hygine
further contributes to his worsening health conditions.
His wife, Maritza, has constantly been an advocate for Juan Carlos.
She has accused the prison authorities of:
· Creating smoke-filled environment to disorient Juan Carlos’ other
senses
· Placing obstacles in Juan Carlos’s way while walking causing him to
fall over
Juan Carlos Gonzalez Leyva case illustrates the conditions in which
political prisoners live in Cuba regardless of their physical conditions
or disabilities.
