Once he joined in a hunger strike to protest the physical abused of another prisoner of consciente at the hands of the prison staff. Since he has been sent to the province of Pinar del Río to serve his sentence his family members who reside in the province of Oriente must endure many hardships when they visit him. They have to travel the width of the island and depend on the very unreliable cuban transportation system. On several occasions Grave de Peralta has been a signatory party to documents denouncing the precarious state of the cuban communist society and its prisons.
