February 23, 2002 for paying tribute in public to the four Brothers to
the Rescue pilots who were shot down by the Castro regime while flying
over international waters. Previously, he had been detained on several
occasions for attending religious services, demonstrating peacefully and
participating in civil disobedience events.
Dominguez Gonzalez has been severely punished for reporting numerous
human rights violations perpetuated by the Cuban government against its
own citizens.
Amnesty International has declared Dominguez Gonzalez a prisoner of
conscience detained for the non-violent exercise of his rights to
freedom of expression and association, and has call for his immediate
and unconditional release. Amnesty International
Dominguez Gonzalez and his family have been granted visas to enter the
United States but the Cuban government has categorically denied their
exit permits.
