Cuban prisoners
were paroled due to accident incurred in a forced labor camp.
SANTA CLARA, CUBA- March 28th

Last March 24, close to a dozen prisoners, in Villa Clara, received a
parolee license due to accidents incurred while working at the prison’s
labor camps.
The parolee’s were serving sentences in the forced labor camp ¨Las
Grimas¨, municipality of Placetas and they were cutting ¨marabu¨ in the
outskirts of the City of Santa Clara last February 20th, when the truck
transporting them turned over in the intersection leading from Camajuani
Road to the Carretera Central.
A guard that goes by the name of Alexei was seriously injured, as well
as prisoners Ramon Ramos alias ¨Monguito¨ a resident of the town of
Salaminas and Ramon Nunez Benitez of the Cifuentes town, the later had
to have one of his legs amputated.
Supervisors of the Interior Ministry in the above mentioned province
decided to grant a parole the above mentioned prisoners due to their
relatives open outcry, stating that their relatives were being exploited
as if they were slaves and were not receiving payment for their work –
finished saying Jorge Luis Artiles Montiel, a delegate of the National
Liberal Party of Cuba and source of this information.
