FROM CUBA

Baptist Church parishioners gave ovation to the 75 political prisoners.

SANTA CLARA, CUBA - March 21 (Guillermo Farinas Hernandez, Cubanacan Press / Puenteinfocubamiami.org) – Last March 18th, when a peaceful opponent mentioned the fifth anniversary of the incarceration of the groups of the 75, parishioners of the First Baptist Church “The Trinity” in Santa Clara, applauded for several minutes.

Former political prisoner and chairman of the Nationalist Civic Movement Idalberto Gonzalez Gomez, borrowed the microphone from Pastor Homero Gonzalez Carbonell a proceeded to explain that in 2003, these 75 men where taken from their families for merely speak out and that they were all honest and ethical workers.

The nearly 200 people present at the parish applauded for more than three minutes. Attending the service were members of the Democracy Movement, Christian Democratic Movement of Cuba, Cuban Christian Union, the Democratic Front and the Independent Cuban Christian Workers Union.

Some 60 members of the State Security police, the Association of Combatants for the Cuban Revolution (ACRC) and the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), remained mobilized around the streets Rafael Tristá corner to Juan Bruno Zayas in the capital of Villa Clara.
