Message of Puente Informativo Cuba Miami

Today, scarcely an hour before the fifth anniversary of the "Black Spring of Cuba" we feel the need to deliver a personal message to our sisters, the Ladies in White, all political prisoners of conscience, our Cuban brothers and sisters in the island and all Cubans like us, who are a part of the largest exile community in our country's history.

The Cuban Spring, a key moment in which the Cuban opposition had flourished. The success of the Varela Project was evident. More than 10,000 signatures required by the Constitution put the Cuban government on the defense, while the independent journalist movement bloomed in the months leading to the wave of repression when they were able to launch in the island the Cuba Independent Magazine.

Today, our message to our people in the island is one of solidarity and full support. Therefore, once again from exile, we feel obliged to reaffirm our full commitment to continue working with our brothers and sisters of the Cuban opposition, for they are the backbone of the movement for freedom and democracy in Cuba.

Our appreciation and total support go to the Ladies in Whites, wives and relatives of the 75 prisoners of conscience unjustly imprisoned in the Cuban Spring of 2003, for their courageous work in defense of their relatives and all of the Cuban political prisoners.

In keeping with our commitment to continue the fight for Cuba, its total freedom and for the right to liberty and justice of the Cuban people,

With Faith in Victory we remain,

Daisy Gil Ortiz, Director
Puente Informativo Cuba Miami
