The health of polítical prisoner Raúl Arencibia Fajardo is deteriorating.

(HAVANA/CUBA/October 21/Puenteinfocubamiami.org)-
Olga Ibarra Echevarría, wife of political prisoner Raúl Arencibia Fajardo confined in the prison 1580, denounced today in Havana that her husband's health is deteriorating. Ibarra pointed out that on October 7th, she was able to visit her husband for a period of three hours and she pointed out that her husband has a permanent cough, sore throat and high fever due to the lack of medical attention he has required for over a month now.

"My husband told me don't ever stop denouncing this atrocities"- Olga pointed out with tears in her eyes. "On the 6th of this month he was taken to the hospital of the prison Combinado del Este, where they took x-rays of his lungs but could not perform an x-ray of his head for the power went out. They kept him all day in a "tapiada" without or medicine." To this day they have not given my husband the results of the test and prison officials cite the reason being the lack of transportation.

Arencibia Fajardo is a member of the February 24 Pro Human Rights Movement , and also of the Club Friends of human rights. Months before his sentencing, he created a project of solidarity with the political presidio that consisted of sending dozens of letter to the political prisoners. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison in an unjust trial , for the supposed crimes of contempt and public disorder along with dissidents Virgilio Marante Guelmes and Orlando Zapata Tamayo. Zapata Tamayo was recognized as prisoner of  conscience in the same cause by Amnesty International.

Reporting from Havana for the Information Bridge Cuba Miami and Net For Cuba International Ernesto Roque Cintero, an independent journalist with the UPECI. Given on the 20th day of October 2004.
