Payá denounces
abuse against Berta Soler

Today, Thursday, October 7th, at three in the morning Mrs, Berta Soler,
wife of the political prisoner Angel Moya, was evacuated from the
Communications Park, a public place contiguous to the Plaza of the
Revolution, by numerous agents of the State Security.
The agents used the force against men and women who were seated
pacifically in the park accompanying Berta. An official said that "they
would not accept pressures", talking about Berta's decision to remain in
the park until they gave her an answer to the request she presented
before the State Council, so that her husband be transferred to a civil
hospital to be operated of a Spinal discal hernia.
The previous night, I spoke to Mrs. Berta Soler for more than an hour in
the park. Berta explained to me that according to doctor's orders, her
husband had to have had the surgery over three months ago, but at the
present time he was a prisoner at the prison Las Mangas, in Granma,
almost an invalid without the medical attention he requires. She has
submitted repeated requests without any results.
We must clarify that her request is for her husband Angel Moya to be
taken as a patient to a civil hospital to have the surgery done. I went
to the park to accompany her and give her my support, that of my family
and my companions. There was no violation of the law, nor alteration of
the order, and no expressions of political content of any kind in the
park. They were waiting for an answer to a request, which is her
Constitutional right to do so, in a public place, a park.
The answer, consequent with the cruel treatment that Angel Moya is being
subjected to was abuse with brute force and to again, step on the legal
rights the citizens have, but that the authorities violate
systematically.
We denounced this cowardly and abusive evacuation and we demand Berta's
petition be granted in order to save her husband from such cruelty.
