An increase in beatings and abuses at the prison Kilo 8.

(CIEGO DE ÁVILA/CUBA/November 7/Puenteinfocubamiami.org)-
Here below is a denouncement by the political prisoner Fabio Prieto from the prison Kilo 8 in Camaguey, and sent to Juan Carlos González Leyva, president of the Cuban Human Rights Foundation, who provided said information to Acción Democrática Cubana:

The never ending beatings on behalf of the prison authorities at the prison Kilo 8 in Camaguey have increased drastically in the last few days, specially against Daniel Ferrer Martínez, Juan Carlos Herrera Acosta and other common prisoners, locked in the torture area known as "Major Severity".

While they were beating me up as I was held down on the floor with my arms on my back in handcuffs and a my head pinned down to the floor by the boot of a regime lackey, they screamed "traitor, worm, coward", that's how I became unconscious- said Herrera Acosta, who suffered intolerable  pain in his throat, eyes swollen and other bruises.

The police break the telephones, mostly to avoid news getting out of the prison. Prisoners refused to stand up for the counts as a form of protest, causing extreme anger to the State Security who then authorized the brutal beatings as retaliation.

José Daniel Ferrer García and Juan Carlos Herrera Acosta are two of the group of 75 dissidents and opponents that were sanctioned to long prison terms in 2003 for dissenting from the official political views.

At the closing of this note we learned that José Daniel Ferrer García is in a hunger strike since the 21 of October. Also, the beatings of the political prisoners provoked protests amongst the penal population, for that reason many prisoners were hit and injured by police with billy clubs.
