Doctor began a hunger strike in Cuba
(HAVANA/CUBA/November 7/Puenteinfocubamiami.org)-
Below is the transcribed declaration of Darsi Ferrer, a Cuban Doctor,
given to Acción Democrática Cubana by Moisés Leonardo Rodríguez Valdés,
initial promoter of the Corriente Martiana.
In view of the lack of attention to the complaints and petitions I filed
in a letter I wrote addressed to the Minister of Public Health of the
Republic of Cuba, Dr. José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera, that I delivered in
person to the above Ministry on the 6th day of September of 2004, and
assisted by the right granted to me as a citizen under Article 63 of the
Cuban Constitution, which in the same manner stipulates the duties that
government authorities have to reply to said complaints in a period of
time stipulated by the Law, I decided to make public the content of said
letter.
For all of the above and in solidarity with the five doctors presently
in prison for exercising the right to freedom of speech, reunion and
association, I decided to start a hunger strike for a period of five
days.
As a democrat I demand the immediate release from prison without
Conditions for:
Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet González, sentenced arbitrarily to 25
years in prison.
Dr. José Luis García Paneque, sentenced arbitrarily to 24 years
in prison.
Dr. Marcelo Cano Rodríguez, sentenced arbitrarily to 18 years in
prison.
Dr. Luis Milán Fernández, sentenced arbitrarily to 13 years in
prison.
Dr. Ricardo Silva Gual, sentenced arbitrarily to 10 years in
prison.
Ratifying all of all of the above, I hereby sign
Dr. Darsi Ferrer Ramírez
