Press Release
Meeting with the Honorable Congressman of
the United States Elijah E. Cummings
M.C.U.D. International/Baltimore December
16, 2004. The President of the M.C.U.D., Eng. César L. Alarcón, met with
the Honorable Congressman of the United States Elijah E. Cummings, who
is also Chairman of The Congressional Black Caucus. In this important
meeting Eng. Alarcón spoke with the Congressman regarding the present
problems on the Cuban island, specially the case of the black Cuban
population that is sunk in apartheid, as is the general case for all its
citizens. Eng. Alarcón showed the Congressman in general figures that in
Cuba key and high positions within the communist party and the
government are under the absolute control of the whites. Equally,
desirable positions and with better pay are destined solely for the
elite officials, their relatives and friends, leaving most of the Cuban
population that is black or racially mixed the worse part.
They spoke specially of the mistreatment that the blacks receive in the
island jails, which according to testimonies is superior to that already
inflicted on all other inmates.
Eng. Alarcón gave the Congressman a folder containing the biography, as
well as information and denunciations emitted by the political prisoner
Doctor Oscar Elías Biscet from Cuba. They discussed the political
clarity of this natural leader, who has become a target for attacks by
the system, first by his clear ideas and rejection to accept the
violations and atrocities that are committed in the island, and second
to be black and to dare to do it. They discussed the cruel punishments
that Dr Biscet receives, as this great Cuban maintains his faith and
hope in obtaining a Free Cuba for all, without yielding an inch in his
firm position of no deals nor negotiations with those that violate his
country and jail and put to death men for their ideals.
The Honorable Congressman Elijah E. Cummings wishes good luck and
freedom to all the political prisoners and the Cuban people. He assured
Eng. Alarcón that soon they will have a formal meeting with him and
other members of the Black Caucus of the Congress of the U.S.A. to find
an effective way to help our Cuban brothers on the island.
