M.A.R. POR CUBA
- PRESS RELEASE
Miami, December 10, 2004 - International Human Rights' Day - M.A.R. POR
CUBA (Mothers & Women Against Repression) joins the clamor of our
community in demanding respect for the human rights of those Cubans held
at the Carmichael Detention Center in Nassau, Bahamas, and requests the
urgent intervention of governments and international organizations
before the government of the Bahamas, on behalf of our fellow Cubans who
escaped the island in an attempt to reach freedom.
Among the refugee group, there are activists and members of the
pro-democracy opposition movement "30 de Noviembre", as well as women
and children, many injured as a result of the mistreatment they received
in said prison, who - if repatriated to Cuba - would become victims of
political persecution.
In view of the totalitarian nature of Castro's regime - that violates
each and all of the human rights of the Cuban people - it is essential
that the international community becomes aware of this critical
situation and raises its voices in their defense.
