SOS sent from Combinado del Este by Arturo Suárez Ramos.

http://www.puenteinfocubamiami.org

This November 4, the political prisoner Arturo Suárez Ramos concluded a hunger strike which lasted 21 days. Today, sequels of said deed have caused his body to swell up, and he is critically ill. Prison authorities deny his constant requests for medical attention and therefore he fears for his personal integrity.

From: Arturo Suárez Ramos.

For: Isabel Ramos (mother).

November 12 2003.

Mother:

My entire body has been swollen for the past 8 days; I am presenting a widespread edema as sequel of the 21 days I was without eating. It feels as if my entire body is going to burst, all my muscles hurt, my testicles are swollen and they also hurt. It hurts all through the esophagus, the thorax and the abdomen.

At times I feel sick. However, Lieutenant Colonel José A. Rojas García denies my requests for medical attention, even though I expressed to him my need for a medical checkup, for most likely I am suffering from a widespread edema, as it happened to me after my last two hunger strikes, but he still blocks my request for medical attention.

Believe me, I feel bad, very bad; I would be hospitalized if I were in a system that respected the human rights of its prisoners. I am sending you an electrocardiogram taken of me ten days into the hunger strike for I had chest pains, I believe it read somewhat altered; I am not sure; the prison physician said it was a muscular pain. Take it to a doctor you trust so he can check the results.

Take care, I love you and don't worry, our dignity and decency is above the dignity and decency of many traitors' of the Cuban State Security.
